Uncommon causes include decompression sickness, which has a predilection for spinal
ischemic damage; complications of abdominal surgery, particularly
sympathectomy; circulatory failure as a result of cardiac arrest or prolonged hypotension; and vascular steal in the presence of an arteriovenous malformation.
