In contrast to intact FAs, the external layers of sympathectomized FAs revealed migration of fibroblasts from the adventitia and death of SMCs. These results strongly suggest that sympathetic nerves intervene in the cytoskeletal protein remodelling through phenotypic modulation of both SMCs and MFBs during post-natal development, and in pathologies involving similar phenomena, such as atherosclerosis.
